ETHIOPIA
Ethiopia plans to spice up foreign earnings

Published: 04-DEC-06

Addis Ababa - Ethiopia’s agriculture and rural development ministry has said that a programme to help farmers earn more from spice exports was currently being implemented.

The ministry said that the programme would help farmers invest in modern technologies as well as ensuring that farmers have the mean to process and export spices.

The East African country has already shown strong increases in spice exports, said the ministry. Ethiopia earned $4.4mn by exporting 4 0348 tonnes in 1995 E.C. (2003), and $11.3mn from 15 685 tonnes in 1997 E.C. (2005). -Business in Africa Online
